Boredom

Boredom is the reason we put together The Preaching experience.

People describe preaching as "boring" and sadly, they are often accurate. The question is, "How can people be bored hearing the Word of God?" As I thought about it, I began to wonder if people were bored because preachers were bored.

Years of preaching and teaching through the same biblical texts, changing the illustrations while preaching the same tired messages have left a lot of preachers preaching on autopilot. We come to a text and we see it the way we have always seen it and preach it the way we always have.

Sometimes, when I listen to sermons, I am not sure preachers even read the texts again--at least not with real interest. They just left everything on autopilot.

This is not the way preaching is supposed to be. It is not what we dreamed of when we heard the call to ministry. How do we switch off the auto pilot and take the controls again? It is a challenge.
